¡Viva México! Or is it Méjico? … X or J?

¡Viva México! Or is it Méjico? … X or J?:

It’s Romina Romaniello here today. It’s time for Hola Tuesday, your weekly Spanish lesson!!

Fun fact about me: English is not my first language. I learnt it a little bit when I was a child in primary school and later on in high school as a teen. Learning a foreign language is compulsory in Argentina. Most schools choose to teach English believing it will provide more job opportunities to students. So, most people learn this language because they have to. In this sense I was very lucky because I just loved learning it!

The only problem with my education was that most of the time we’d focus in writing instead of speaking the language. This affected my confidence when talking to people in English. Fortunately, I became aware of this problem and started working on it by including conversation exercises whenever possible.

It worked! Nowadays I can communicate with people from all walks of life in any situation. My grammar is not perfect but I can stand up in front of the camera and teach you my beautiful language in your beautiful language. I believe that the key to increase your confidence when speaking any language is daily conversation exercises and letting go of trying to make grammatically perfect sentences every time you speak.

We didn’t want our students to have to go through the same painful process. That’s why we included speaking exercises in all of our learning programs. If you’re interested in learning more, please visit our courses section in our website.

Now, for today’s Hola Tuesday lesson we decided to tackle another frequently-asked question that undermines your confidence in Spanish and I´m sure that you can´t sleep at night because of it:

how do you write México with X or Méjico with J?
