El verbo ‘estrenar’ es un verbo muy particular en español porque no tiene una traducción literal en inglés.
The verb ‘estrenar’ is a very particular verb in Spanish because it doesn’t have a literal translation in English.

‘Estrenar’ significa usar algo por primera vez, particularmente usar algo nuevo por primera vez. Por ejemplo, si tú vas a la tienda y te compras una chaqueta nueva o unos zapatos nuevos y los usas por primera vez en una fiesta, puedes decir “hoy estoy estrenando” “Estos zapatos son nuevos, los estoy estrenando”.
‘Estrenar’ means to use something for the first time, especially something new. For example, if you go to the store and buy a new jacket and new shoes and you wear them for the first time in a party, you can say “hoy estoy estrenando” (today I’m wearing this for the first time) “Estos zapatos son nuevos, los estoy estrenando” (these shoes are new I’m wearing them for the first time).

‘Estrenar’ se usa para hablar de ropa o prendas de vestir, zapatos y accesorios. No lo puedes usar con objetos como una casa o un carro. Si tú te compras un carro nuevo o una casa nueva, no dices que estás estrenando porque este verbo se usa más con prendas de vestir o accesorios.
We use ‘estrenar’ to talk about clothes, shoes or accessories only. You can’t use it with other objects such as a house or a car. If you buy a new car or a new house you can’t say you’re wearing it for the first time because this verb is used more for clothes or accessories.

Por lo general usamos el verbo ‘estrenar’ en el presente continuo del modo indicativo ‘estoy estrenado’ y en el futuro del indicativo ‘lo voy a estrenar/estrenaré mañana’.
Generally, we use the verb ‘estrenar’ in the present continuous of the indicative mood ‘estoy estrenando’ (I’m wearing) and in the future of the indicative mood ‘lo voy a estrenar/estrenaré mañana’ (I’m going to wear it/I’ll wear it tomorrow).

Vamos a analizar esta frase: ROPA SIN ESTRENAR ¿Sabes qué significa? Esta frase la usamos para hablar de ropa nueva que nunca hemos usado hasta el momento.
Let’s analyse this phrase: ROPA SIN ESTRENAR. Do you know what it means? We use this phrase to talk about new clothes that we’ve never worn before.

También usamos el verbo ‘estrenar’ en el contexto de las películas y el cine. ‘Estrenos’ son las películas que están en el cine en este momento y que se están mostrando por primera vez.
We also use the verb ‘estrenar’ in the context of movies and the cinema. ‘Estrenos’ are movies that are showing at the cinema right now for the first time.

Vamos a analizar la frase: EL ESTRENO DE LA PELÍCULA. Este es un evento muy importante para el lanzamiento de la película en el cine en donde están los actores y directores de la película en la alfombra roja para promocionar el lanzamiento del filme.
Let’s analise the phrase: EL ESTRENO DE LA PELÍCULA. This is a very important event for the release of the movie in cinemas with all the actors and directors of the movie on the red carpet promoting the release of the film.

Para hablar de las películas podemos usar el verbo ‘estrenar’ y el sustantivo masculino ‘estreno/el estreno’.
We can use the verb ‘estrenar’ to talk about when a movie is coming out and the masculine noun ‘estreno/el estreno’ which means ‘the movie premier’.

Por ejemplo:
For example:
1. ¿Cuándo se estrena la película ‘No dormirás’?
[When is the movie ‘No dormirás’ coming out?]
2. ¿Cuándo es el estreno de la película ‘No dormirás?’?
[When is the movie premier of ‘No dormirás’?]

En el ejemplo 1, el ‘se’ es el pronombre de la voz pasiva con ‘se’. La película se estrena, las películas se estrenan.
In example 1, the pronoun ‘se’ is for the passive voice. ‘La película se estrena, las películas se estrenan’ (the movie is shown for the first time, the movies are shown for the first time).
