Estuve en San Diego para una conferencia por 7 días y una de las cosas en mi lista de experiencias y aventuras era definitivamente cruzar la frontera y visitar Tijuana en México.
I was in San Diego for a Conference for 7 days and one of the things in my to do list of experiences and adventures was to cross the border and visit Tijuana in Mexico.

Cruzar la frontera desde Estados Unidos a Tijuana, México es muy fácil y rápido. La mejor forma y la más divertida, en mi opinión, es hacerlo a pie caminando, pero también se puede cruzar en coche.
Crossing the border from the United States to Tijuana, Mexico it very easy and quick. The best way and the most fun, in my opinion, is to do it on foot walking, but you can also cross it by car.

Puedes tomar un tren desde San Diego en la estación Santa Fe, o puedes tomar un Uber o un taxi hasta la frontera que te lleva como unos 15 o 20 minutos. Cuando llegas a la frontera, verás un cartel para cruzar caminando a México.
You can take a train from San Diego from Santa Fe Station, or you can take an Uber or a taxi from the border which Will take you around 15 to 20 minutes. Once you get to the border, you will see a sign to walk across to Mexico.

Para cruzar solo necesitas tu pasaporte y lo mejor es que puedes empezar a practicar tu español con el agente de inmigración en la entrada del país. ¡Es tan emocionante cuando estás cruzando ver al cartel que indica “México” hacia la izquierda y “USA” hacia la derecha!
In order to cross you only need your Passport and the best part is that you can start practicing your Spanish with the immigration agent straightaway when you enter the country. It’s so exciting when you’re walking across to see the sign that says “Mexico” to the left and “USA” to the right!

Cruzar la frontera no lleva más de unos 30 minutos en total y cuando estés del otro lado, puedes tomar un taxi que por $5 dólares estadounidenses te lleva hasta la Plaza Revolución.
Walking across the border doesn’t take more than 30 minutes in total and when you’re on the other side, you can take a taxi for $5 to take you to Revolution Square.

Tijuana tiene un estigma de ser un lugar peligroso, pero ha cambiado mucho en los últimos años y no tienes nada que temer. Para evitar meterte en problemas o zonas peligrosas, visita la Plaza Revolución que tiene 11 cuadras muy seguras para caminar y recorrer llenas de actividades bien culturales y mexicanas para disfrutar.
Tijuana has a stigma of being a dangerous place, but it’s changed a lot in the last few years and you have nothing to fear. To avoid getting into trouble or going to dangerous areas, visit Revolution Square which consists of 11 super safe blocks to walk and see full of Mexican cultural activities to enjoy.

Puedes comer comida típica de Méjico como tacos, burritos, tamales, carnitas, quesadillas, etc., y beber cervezas locales, margaritas, tequila y tragos. La calle principal hermosamente decorada con guirnaldas multicolores está llena de gente, puestos de comida y tiendas de suvenires que vibran al compás de la música latina en donde puedes escuchar salsa, merengue, cumbia con gente bailando y socializando con sus amigos y familiares en bares y restaurantes. También puedes escuchar las serenatas de los mariachis en todos lados.
You can eat typical Mexican food like tacos, burritos, tamales, carnitas, quesadillas, etc. and drink local beer, margaritas, tequila and mixed drinks. The main street which is beautifully decorated with colorful festoons, is full of people, food shops and souvenirs stores that vibrate to the rhythm of Latin music like salsa, merengue, cumbia with people dancing and socializing with friends and family in bars and restaurants. You can also hear mariachis everywhere!

Volver a los Estados Unidos fue tan fácil como salir. Solo tienes que presentar tu pasaporte (y tu visa si no eres ciudadano) y listo, puedes regresar a tu hotel sin problemas.
Coming back to the USA was as easy as leaving. You only have to present your passport (with your visa if you’re not a citizen) and that’s it! You can return to your hotel without any issues.

Lamentablemente solo pude quedarme un día en Tijuana, pero cruzar la frontera a pie fue una de las mejores y más divertidas experiencias de mi vida ¡Lo pasé genial! Y la gente es muy amable y simpática así que puedes practicar tu español sin miedo y sin vergüenza.
Unfortunately, I could only stay for a day in Tijuana, but walking across the border was one of the best and most fun experiences of my life. I had such a great time! And the Mexican people are very nice and kind so you can practice your Spanish without fear or shame.
