5 Spanish Movies You MUST watch!
¡Hola! It’s Brenda Romaniello here today. How was your weekend? My weekend was very busy, I was in New Zealand for a conference and I absolutely loved it there. I didn’t get a change to travel much but the people I met were super relaxed and friendly, and the food was amazing! I’m definitely coming back to explore more of this beautiful country.
I’m in Melbourne at the moment for a course. Romi and I love learning new things, the other day I was listening to a podcast and they spoke about the principle of having fun. They said the MOST important thing you should do is to have fun because just like anything in life, the more you enjoy something the better you’ll become at it, and the better you become at something, the faster you’ll reach your goals. So, if your goal is to learn Spanish or become fluent in Spanish try to make it fun and it’ll be a lot easier.
How to make Spanish learning more fun? you can listen to music in Spanish, watch Spanish movies, go to restaurants, befriend Spanish speakers, etc.
One of the ways to learn Spanish in a fun way is to watch Spanish movies and this week I’m very exited because the Latin Film festival is on. It’s my favourite part of the year because I get to see what’s on in the Latin agenda and what Spanish movies came out recently. I love recommending Spanish movies to watch to my students, because I think it’s a great and fun way to practice and learn not only the language but also the culture. You can watch Spanish movies with English subtitles, Spanish subtitles, or challenge yourself and watch it without any subtitles.
Here are my top 5 Spanish movies to watch before the end of the year:
#1 Me estás matando Susana – You’re killing me Susana
#2 La habitación – Tales of Mexico
#3 Al final del túnel – At the end of the tunnel
#4 Migas de pan – Breadcrumbs
#5 La carga – The load
For more info go to the website of the Cine Latino Film Festival and if you are going to watch a movie in Melbourne let me know so we can catch up.
I can’t wait to go to the movies here in Melbourne. I love this city, it reminds me a lot of San Telmo, a trendy and hipster neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, very artistic and full of life. San Telmo is the oldest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city. Filled with cobbled streets, old colonial architecture and shady plazas. One of my favourite activities to do in San Telmo is the Sunday feria (market), open every Sunday throughout the year and is probably the area’s most famous attraction with its many stalls selling antiques, hand-made crafts and souvenirs.
Looking for my carry on suitcase and cleaning up old boxes the other day I found an old coin carved through and turned into a necklace that I had bought at San Telmo Feria like 10 years ago and it inspired me for today’s Hola Tuesday lesson! Your weekly Spanish lesson.
Today, I’d like to share a Spanish saying or expression we use a lot: “Pagar con la misma moneda” which literally means: to pay with the same coin but a translation could be ‘to give someone a taste of their own medicine’ or ‘an eye for an eye’, that is to say, to give somebody the same treatment/mistreatment as they have done to you. It has more of a negative connotation.
Por ejemplo: Ana no me invitó a su cumpleaños, así que para mi cumpleaños le voy a pagar con la misma moneda y no la voy a invitar a mi fiesta.
Translation: Ana didn’t invite me to her birthday party, so for my birthday I’ll give a taste of her own medicine and I won’t invite her to my party.
